You are an experienced user of reporting systems and need to use Microsoft Power BI to define and extend data models for use by business users of Power BI Desktop You need to define data models, enhance data with calculated columns and measures, clean data, use ETL and analyze data over time
Please note that this course will only run when we have 6 confirmed delegates booked on the course. In this course, attendees will learn how to model tables, create relationships, calculated columns, calculated tables and measures that support better reporting for the business. We will use Power BI for all practical implementations but these skills are easily transferable to Excel and Analysis Services.
In this course, we will discuss some of the principles of data modeling and practically write M Language Power Queries. After this course you will be able to:
- Design a data model
- Write M Language Power Queries.
- Create Data Models using disparate sources.
This course will build on your knowledge of either Power BI or Power Pivot creating more advanced formulas for your reports and dashboards. In this course you will learn to:
- Understand the structure of a DAX formula.
- Use different types of DAX functions.
- Understand the role of the Calendar table and use advanced time-intelligence functions.
- Understand context in DAX both row and filter and the effect of relationships.
- Use variables to improve the performance and readability of your formulas.
- Use DAX to enforce Row Level Security on your reports in Power BI.

This course is intended for people who have been working with Power BI, Excel pivot tables or SSAS tabular and are looking to understand how to create richer data models to enable deeper insight into their data.
The Power BI boot camp course is a pre-requisite for the course. Alternatively, delegates should have at least 3 months experience in using Power BI Desktop for creating reports and dashboards.
