This Unit Standard is part of the fundamentals of the Generic Management Qualification ID 59201 at NQF level 5, for 162 credits. This Unit standard addresses Critical Thinking and Decision-Making skills and is intended for managers in all economic sectors. These managers would typically be second-level managers such as heads of department, section heads, or divisional heads, who may have more than one team reporting to them, and who would like to gain critical and analytical skills for decision making.

This course is offered both as virtual Instructor-led and in-classroom training and covers both practical and theoretical components of critical thinking and problem-solving.  In this course, you will analyze and explore a problem to make the best decision.

The learning outcomes for this course are:

  • Applying critical and analytical skills to analyse an issue or problem.
  • Engaging with stakeholders in analysing the issue/problem and developing solutions.
  • Selecting feasible solutions through a systems approach.
  • Formulating and communicating the decision.

Audience

This course will suit leaders, managers, supervisors and mid-level personnel in any business unit who are responsible for leading and managing staff.  It would also suit any qualifying learner who would like to earn credits towards a qualification. 

Pre-Requisites

 

It is assumed that learners are competent in:

  • Communication at NQF Level 4
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 4 

A matric or equivalent certificate is acceptable to prove the above entry requirements.

Course Outline / Curriculum

Lesson 1

Theoretical approaches to Critical Thinking and Decision-making are explored.

Apply critical and analytical skills to analyse an issue or problem. 

Lesson 2

Engage with stakeholders in analysing the issue/problem and developing solutions.

Lesson 3

Select feasible solutions through a systems approach.

 

Lesson 4

Formulate and communicate the decision.
