By the end, you'll walk away with a practical business plan, foundational business skills, and the confidence to launch a successful venture. 

This QCTO-accredited programme (NQF Level 2, 32 credits) is perfect for aspiring entrepreneurs ready to launch a new venture or for small business owners looking to strengthen and grow their enterprises. Upon completion, learners will be able to: 

  • Gather and analyse industry-specific information 
  • Identify market requirements for marketing and selling goods and services 
  • Determine the financial, human, and infrastructure needs of a business 
  • Manage these resources effectively to optimise operations 
  • Develop a comprehensive plan for establishing a new business 
  • Organise and conduct daily business activities confidently and efficiently 

The New Venture Creation Entrepreneurial Skills course requires the following:

  • Active Participation: You take responsibility for your own learning and time management. 
  • 12 Formal Contact Days: Structured, participative sessions using a Learner Workbook for formative assessments and class activities. 
  • Three Practical Days: Hands-on application in your workplace, where you complete Knowledge Questions and Practical Activities for summative assessment. 
  • Business Plan Project: Construct a supervised project/business plan (often workplace-based), and maintain a logbook of related activities. 
  • Facilitator Support: Guidance during contact sessions, feedback on activities, and assistance in identifying coaching or mentoring needs. 
  • Workplace Mentor: Regular meetings to review course topics, gain insights, and clarify questions. 
  • Ongoing Evaluation: Continuous assessment through integrated multiple-choice questions, formative tasks, and summative assessments. 
  • Portfolio of Evidence (PoE): Compile your Learner Workbook, all assessments, project/business plan evidence, and mentorship records (log sheets, progress reports, evaluations) into a PoE for assessment.
  • Delivery: Training sessions can be done online with a facilitator or in person at your company's premises.
  • Group requirements: Please note that this is only offered for groups of 10 or more with maximum of 30 in a programme.

Pre-Requisites

Course Outline / Curriculum

This 15-day, QCTO-accredited New Venture Creation course (NQF Level 2 for 32 credits) equips aspiring entrepreneurs with core knowledge and hands-on experience in starting and running a small business. Key topics include: 

 
  • Entrepreneurship Foundations – Understanding what it means to be an entrepreneur and assessing your personal readiness. 
  • Industry Insights – Learning to research market opportunities, innovate, and stand out from competitors. 
  • Financial Basics – Managing cash flow, interpreting financial statements, and pricing goods or services effectively. 
  • Marketing Essentials – Developing a marketing plan and executing a practical project to reach and retain customers. 
  • Customer Service – Building strong relationships and improving customer satisfaction.
