The Professional Manager





The Accredited Professional Manager Short Skills Course is set at NQF level 5, for 10 Credits and covers the learning outcomes for 2 unit standards from the National Certificate: Generic Management, Qualification ID :59201(NQF Level 5 for 162 credits). By enrolling on this short course, and being deemed competent after completing the assessment activities for the course, you will be able to earn 10 credits towards this national qualification.

This course covers key concepts such as team theory, the role of a leader in developing a team and how a leader can promote team effectiveness.  The course aims to position a leader as a facilitator to encourage high performance through recognising performance and building team ownership through techniques such as participative decision making.  Key concepts on how and when to delegate are covered and link back to the development stage of team members.

This course is intended for: managers in all economic sectors. These managers would typically be second level managers such as heads of department, section heads or divisional heads, who may have more than one team reporting to them or anyone new to managing or leading a team.


Business experience dealing with teams is essential and some leadership experience would be beneficial.  

Learning Assumed To Be In Place And Recognition Of Prior Learning

It is assumed that people learning towards this Unit Standard are competent in

  • Communication at NQF level 4

  • Computer Literacy at NQF level 4
