Details

This short course covers team building from a new or inexperienced manager's perspective with many practical elements and clear steps of how to build a team. We start by recognizing what a team is and move on to fostering the right behaviors and actions to build team dynamics. We cover how to be aware of and alter your management style to build trust and team cohesion and increase the productivity of a team. The course also covers practical elements of defining team roles and responsibilities, delegating tasks, giving feedback, and managing the performance of a team. This is an accredited short skills course.

The Unit standards covered are:

  • 252037 - Build teams to achieve goals and objectives at NQF level 5 for 6 credits
  • 15224 - Empower team members through recognizing strengths, encouraging participation in decision making, and delegating tasks, at NQF level 5 for 4 credits.  

Together, both unit standards covered in this practical course contribute 10 credits towards the Leadership Module of the National Certificate: Generic Management, Qualification ID: 59201

Audience

This course is intended for managers or aspiring managers in all economic sectors and fields.

These managers would typically be second-level managers such as heads of department, section heads, or divisional heads, who may have more than one team reporting to them or anyone new to managing or leading a team.

Pre-Requisites

Learning Assumed To Be In Place And Recognition Of Prior Learning:

It is assumed that people learning towards this Unit Standard are competent in:

  • Communication at NQF level 4.
  • Computer Literacy at NQF level 4.

Your certified matric or equivalent certificate will be required.

Course Outline / Curriculum

At the end of this course, the qualifying learner will be capable of:

 

  • Demonstrating knowledge of and insight into the theory of teams and the importance of teams in workplace activities
  • Applying the theory of teams to team dynamics
  • Explaining the process of building teams
  • Analysing the role of team leader in promoting team effectiveness
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of a team and proposing ways to improve team effectiveness
  • Recognizing team member performance.
  • Encouraging participation in decision-making
  • Delegate tasks
  • Reviewing decisions and the progress with delegated tasks
