This short Skills Course is accredited with the Services SETA and covers the specific outcomes of a unit standard from the qualification Further Education and Training Certificate: Generic Management SAQA ID:57712.

The unit standard is SAQA US ID 242821 - Identify responsibilities of a team leader in ensuring that organisational standards are met NQF Level: 4, Credits: 6 This is a core unit standard in the above qualification.

 

This accredited short course aims to equip supervisors of small teams with essential understanding and team management skills.

The unit standard explores the role of the team leader in ensuring that the team meets organisational or required standards. It is intended for junior managers of organisations.

This course is intended for people heading up a work unit or supervising work. Persons completing this course can plan, organise and allocate work to an individual or members of a work team according to the defined business plan for a work unit within an organisation and monitor and evaluate the achievement of the defined objectives for the work unit.

This course is offered as both an online webinar and a classroom-based course.

Audience

This course would suit someone who is working who supervises a team in a work environment and who would like to earn credits on the NQF by achieving the outcomes of this course through assessment.

Pre-Requisites

It is assumed that people starting to learn towards these unit standards are able to:

  • be competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • function on basic industry and business knowledge
  • interpret basic workflow principles
  • schedule activities
  • apply basic quality control principles

Course Outline / Curriculum

There are seven modules covering the following objectives:

  • Explaining the role of a team leader
  • Explaining the purpose of a team
  • Contracting with a team to obtain commitment
  • Monitor the achievement of team objectives
  • Plan, organise and allocate work
  • Manage interpersonal team processes to achieve required outputs
  • Evaluate achievement of work unit objectives

In between, we weave in essential skills and knowledge in leadership, both self management skills such as setting effective goals and planning using an urgent-important matrix, and team management skills.

Supervisors will learn how to apply the Situational leadership model to their own team and learn to flex their leadership style to better match their team’s development. We will discuss communication skills and how to delegate and give effective feedback.
